Obituary - Ian Fusedale

Thu 09 April 2020, 12:15|Tottenham Hotspur

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Ian Fusedale, who passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Barnet Hospital after being diagnosed with coronavirus. He was 75.

Born in Wood Green, Ian, a defender, signed youth forms at the Club in 1959. He played for our youth, reserve and 'A' teams before signing a part-time professional contract in May, 1963. He continued to play reserve and 'A' team football until the end of the 1964/65 season.

In the summer of 1965, Ian left Spurs to join Cambridge City, where his friend and our legendary former midfielder Tony Marchi had just taken up a player/manager role. After stepping away from football, Ian returned to the game in 1970 with a move to Barnet, where he played alongside his former Spurs team-mates Ben Embery and Jimmy Lye.

Ian went on to make over 150 appearances for Barnet and was part of the team that reached the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in 1972. He eventually retired in 1975.

After playing, Ian took up a role at the London Clock Company, where he was later a director. He was back at the Club as recently as July last year, when he watched our International Champions Cup match against Inter at the new stadium.

We extend our condolences to Ian's family and friends at this sad time.
